Product Overview
When the application goes below 400 nm or above ordinary thermal budgets, BK7 is ruled out and fused silica takes over. UV-grade fused silica transmits into the deep UV — around 185 nm and below depending on grade — with essentially zero fluorescence and inclusions that UV systems amplify into scatter centers. Its other signature property is thermal: at roughly 0.55 × 10⁻⁶/K expansion, about one-fifth of BK7, it survives high-power laser heating and cryogenic cycling without figure distortion. Chinese shops listed here work JGS1 and equivalent imported materials into all standard spherical forms, with laser-grade polishing (10-5 scratch-dig, λ/10 figure) where scatter budgets demand it. Because silica is harder to process than crown glass, lead times and prices scale with quality tier honestly — specify the laser damage threshold or scatter requirement explicitly rather than over-specifying by habit.
