Product Overview
Lightweight mullite insulating firebrick does the job dense bricks cannot: holding the heat in. A porous, mullite-based body at 0.6–1.2 g/cm³ bulk density gives thermal conductivity far below that of dense firebrick, cutting shell temperatures and fuel consumption as backup insulation behind working linings in kilns, furnaces and kiln cars. The trade-off is mechanical strength — cold crushing strength of roughly 1.5–6 MPa means these bricks must not carry structural loads, abrasion or direct flame impingement. Grades are sold by classification temperature (typically 1300–1600°C series), and a standard safety margin of about 100–150°C between service temperature and classification temperature is common practice. Manufacturers listed here machine standard straights, arch and wedge shapes, and supply graded density systems so the hot face, intermediate layer and cold face each use the lowest-density brick the position allows.
