Product Overview
Silicon carbide kiln furniture carries ware where oxide shelves crack, warp or contaminate. Two industrial systems dominate: reaction-bonded Si-SiC, in which silicon infiltrates a porous SiC/carbon preform, offering excellent thermal conductivity and shock resistance to about 1350°C; and recrystallized R-SiC, a self-bonded high-purity body usable to roughly 1600°C in suitable atmospheres. Both share the decisive advantages of SiC — thermal conductivity orders of magnitude above alumina furniture (flattening kiln temperature gradients and shortening cycles), oxidation resistance in air, and high hot strength allowing thinner, lighter shelves with faster heat-up. Manufacturers listed here press and reaction-sinter or recrystallize plates, batts, setters and beams, grinding working surfaces flat so stacked loads stay level through repeated thermal cycling.
